The Mission

Bravo is an AI learning tool for university students, starting at Maastricht University. Our goal is for students to understand their courses and still know the material after the exam. Two things often stand in the way: it is not always clear what is central in a course, and many students rely on study methods that don’t make knowledge last. Personal help, from older students, past-exam archives or a paid tutor, is limited and not equally available to everyone. Bravo gives students personalised tutoring and support, based on their own course material.

The Challenge

A course comes with a manual, slides, a textbook, notes and past exams, but nothing shows what is central, how topics connect, or how the exams have changed over the years. Students spend a lot of time working this out themselves, and that time doesn’t always go to the right things. Many students also rely on rereading and highlighting. These feel productive, but they don’t make knowledge last as well as testing yourself and spreading study over time. Students can get help from teachers, tutors and fellow students, but that help is limited: tutors cost money, teachers have limited time, and fellow students aren’t always available. Past exams also run out quickly, so students end up memorising answers instead of practising with new questions. General AI chatbots can explain things at any time, but they don’t know the course, what it emphasises, or what the student already understands. They answer the question they are asked, so the student has to know what to ask. They can also make up content.

The solution

Students upload their course material: manual, slides, book, notes and past exams (if available). Bravo: identifies the core concepts and how they connect, and uses the manual and, where available, past exams to show what the course treats as essential tracks what each student does and doesn’t understand, concept by concept builds a study plan that spreads practice over time and adapts as the student improves works as a personal 24/7 tutor that explains concepts using the course material and what the student is struggling with generates unlimited new practice questions and mock exams aimed at the student’s weak spots How Bravo differs from a general AI chatbot: It works from the whole course. Bravo uses all the material for a course at once, not one file per conversation. Validation agents check its answers against those sources, so explanations match how the course teaches the material. It knows what matters. Bravo uses the manual and, where available, past exams to see what the course emphasises. A chatbot treats every topic as equally important. It keeps track of the student. Bravo keeps a record of what each student has mastered and where they make mistakes, and uses it in every explanation and exercise. A chatbot doesn’t track what you have mastered in a course. It takes the lead. A chatbot waits for questions. Bravo decides what the student should practise next, tests them, and schedules the next review.
