The Mission

RoomRelay is a website that connects students so they can rent out their rooms to each other. What makes it unique is that it is a student-only platform: only people with a student email address can create an account, which creates a trusted community. We also help students sublet legally by having an AI screen their rental contract. The AI tells them whether subletting is allowed, and if it is not, guides them on how to request permission.

The Challenge

Students often want to rent out their room temporarily, for example during an exchange or internship, but finding a trustworthy tenant is difficult and open platforms carry a risk of scams. On top of that, many students do not know whether their rental contract allows subletting, so they risk breaking the rules or losing their room.

The solution

RoomRelay is a student-only platform where verified students can safely offer and find rooms. Before listing a room, students can upload their rental contract, which an AI checks to see whether subletting is permitted. If it is not, the platform guides them through the steps to ask their landlord for permission. This way, students can rent out their rooms with confidence and stay within the rules.
