The Mission
The mission of this project is to recycle organic waste generated in UM campus.
The Challenge
At UM campus, organic waste is not separated and thus not recycled. When waste is collected and sent to recycling centres, it is again not separated plastic from organic, making the process highly unefficient for adecuate recycling. Considering the current situation, this project promotes in-site self-recycling while promoting circular economy and providing an educational programme to show students how microbial composting works.
The solution
This project suggest implementing communitary organic composting in UM campus, including all faculties and Sustainability Hub. This way, students, proffessors and university staff can reduce their carbon footprint while turning waste into a new resource such as soil. This new resource could be used in faculty gardens. Hence, reducing maintance costs for acquiring new soil for greenery. The project could be first be implemented in a single facutly as a pilot project and then extrapolated to other faculties.
