ME/CFS Identifiers

The Mission

The mission is to research the cause of ME/CFS, with the possibility of developing an innovative diagnostic tool. This sparks attention for future research, such as finding a cure or developing more efficient therapies, allowing ME/CFS patients to be heard.

The Challenge

There exists no cure or definitive diagnostic tool for ME/CFS patients, leading to several people being undiagnosed or the time taken to do so. This condition is a chronic disease lasting about 7 years or much longer, where individuals are more prone to infections and other complications depending on the affected parts. The severity can range from the person only having the effort to go from point A to B, or being completely bed-bound. Despite all this, individuals are challenged by Post-Exertional Malaise (PEM), which can be triggered by activities such as studying. PEM can take from hours/days to weeks to recover, and its consequence is making the symptoms significantly worse over time.

The solution

Collaborating with clinical institutes to study Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS) by combining clinical data, wearable-derived physiological signals, and targeted biological markers to identify consistent patterns and develop a diagnostic tool. In parallel, analyse existing scientific literature to identify known hypotheses, biomarkers, and gaps in ME/CFS research. These insights would guide the data collection and modelling.
