Fork & Folks is a platform-based service connecting people who love to cook with those who long for a home-cooked meal. Our initial niche target market is international students living abroad, particularly in university cities like Maastricht, who often miss authentic food from their culture or don’t have time, resources, or skills to prepare it themselves. The platform allows anyone, from hobbyists to migrant communities, to offer freshly made meals directly from their own kitchens. We empower everyday chefs to turn their passion into purpose while making diverse, affordable, and heartfelt food accessible to those who need it most.
The Challenge
International students often face a disconnect from their cultural roots and daily comforts while living abroad. Many miss the authentic food they grew up with but lack the time, resources, or culinary skills to prepare it themselves. Existing options like restaurants or takeout are often too expensive for students and lack the personal, homemade touch.
The solution
Fork & Folks platform can allow any local chef, from grandmothers to fellow students, to share their skills and offer culinary meals to any student missing home. Through our app or website, users can browse available meals based on cuisine, dietary preferences, or location and place orders for pick-up or delivery. At the same time, we empower everyday chefs to earn money by cooking from their own kitchens, turning passion into purpose. It’s a win-win: affordable, soulful food for students and flexible income and recognition for the cook.
