The Mission
VISTA Systems (Visual Intelligence, Surveillance, and Tactical Assistance): Revolutionizing European decision-making in mission critical environments by integrating multiple intelligence sources into a unified user friendly system. From defense and security to disaster relief, VISTA empowers European operators with real-time situational awareness for smarter and safer responses. In an era where security cooperation and rapid response are increasingly vital, particularly with relevant global humanitarian challenges, VISTA’s first product is BIRDSS-AI. BIRDSS-AI (Battlefield Intelligence, Reconnaissance, & Decision Support System): BIRDSS-AI, delivers a comprehensive AI-powered decision support system that enables real-time, accurate threat detection on battlefields, significantly reducing collateral damage and the operational risks faced by aid-workers and soldiers. BIRDSS-AI provides actionable intelligence ensuring force protection and operational superiority while minimizing the loss of life. The system identifies and classifies civilians, combatants, vehicles, emplacements, POI's, terrain, and other variables without the need for personnel to make direct confrontation. Through automation and advanced data fusion, BIRDSS-AI empowers humanitarians and warfighters to make informed, timely decisions in ever more complex and dynamic operational environments.
The Challenge
Aid-workers, soldiers, and civilians are more vulnerable than ever. The changing landscape of war from conventional to low-intensity conflict as well as the advent of unmanned systems such as UAVs have made battlefields into extremely complex environments. Unmanned systems have made automated reconnaissance the standard in modern military operations, leveraging advanced technology in favor of human personnel, reducing risk to life, and providing real-time intelligence for more informed decision-making. To the same affect, unmanned systems have caused an increase in the use of Loitering Munitions (LM). As more systems in Warzones become unmanned and autonomous, those caught in the middle will become increasingly more vulnerable. Meanwhile the tools to identify and classify what is and isn't target are still human based and error prone. In an era of constant surveillance and information, errors in identifying whether something is humanitarian or a combatant are unacceptable. It is thus imperative that in modern conflict, aid-workers and soldiers should be equipped with the proper knowledge to reduce collateral damage.
The solution
Instead of solely relying on human reconnaissance or traditional intelligence workflows, BIRDSS-AI automates threat detection through a combination of LIDAR and thermal imaging drones, satellite imagery, machine Learning, and decision support tools. This minimizes the risks soldiers and aid-workers face by replacing the need for direct contact, using unmanned systems and fusing multiple intelligence sources into a single user interface. This interface provides real time intelligence information allowing the user to make quick informed decisions on or off the battlefield. The risk to life non-combatants face is mitigated by the abundance of intelligence information provided by the fusion of sources, with civilian presence recorded to prevent any possibility of collateral damage.
